Livid Launches Ad-Free Vimeo Alternative Backed by StreamYard Founders

Livid, a new ad-free video hosting platform, launched in January 2026 with $10 million in committed funding from StreamYard co-founders Geige Vandentop and Dan Briggs.

The platform was founded by Nic Taylor and is positioning itself as a quieter, less cluttered alternative to Vimeo for individual creators and small businesses.

What Livid Is and What It Offers

Livid's core pitch is straightforward: ad-free video hosting with no upsells, no algorithmic feeds, and no social noise.

The Pro plan runs $10 per month and includes 2TB of storage and 3TB of monthly bandwidth.

That positions it as a direct competitor to Vimeo's entry-level paid tier, which has faced consistent pricing pressure and feature-stripping complaints over the past two years.

Livid also ships a free migration tool called L.O.V.E. — the name is not explained with more detail publicly — that exports entire Vimeo libraries including folder structures and metadata intact.

That last detail matters. Vimeo's folder and project organization is one of the reasons many small studios and solo operators have stayed despite price hikes. A tool that preserves that structure removes a real friction point from switching.

Competitive Context

Vimeo remains the default reference point for professional ad-free video hosting, but the platform has moved upmarket aggressively over the past few years.

Its Starter plan currently runs $20/month for 250GB of storage — a significant gap when Livid is offering 2TB at half the price.

SproutVideo targets a similar audience but skews toward business video with analytics and gating features, starting around $25/month. Kaltura operates at the enterprise tier and is a different category entirely.

YouTube remains free and dominant, but its ad-supported model and algorithmic environment make it structurally incompatible with what Livid is selling.

Livid's closest competitive gap is the mid-market: individual filmmakers, boutique agencies, and small businesses who need reliable embeds and clean player experiences without paying enterprise rates.

The Signal in the Noise

StreamYard's co-founders bringing $10 million to a video hosting startup is notable. StreamYard was acquired by Hopin in 2021 and later by Banzai International — the founders clearly have both the operational experience and the financial runway to build something durable.

The L.O.V.E. migration tool is the sharpest part of the launch. Lowering the switching cost is a well-worn growth tactic, but it only works if the destination platform is actually ready to receive users at scale.

At $10/month for 2TB, Livid is priced to acquire. Whether the bandwidth holds up under real-world load, and what the roadmap looks like for business-tier features, are the open questions.

For solo video producers and small studios who have been looking for an exit ramp from Vimeo's pricing trajectory, Livid is worth a look right now.
