After 8 Years, Runway Finally Has runway.com

Runway co-founder Cristóbal Valenzuela announced today that the company has acquired runway.com — eight years after incorporating as Runway AI in 2018 and settling for runwayml.com because they couldn't afford the domain.

The backstory is worth the brief telling. When Runway was founded in 2018, the field was still mostly called machine learning rather than AI, so runwayml.com made sense. The company later dropped the "ML" and rebranded simply as Runway — but the domain runway.com remained out of reach until now. Today that changes.

The new domain is live and carries the tagline "Building Real-World Intelligence" — a subtle but notable shift in how Runway is positioning itself as it expands beyond video generation into a broader AI media platform.

Not a product announcement, not a feature update. Just a small milestone that's been eight years in the making for a company now valued at $5.3 billion.
